As women age, the quantity and quality of their eggs may diminish, making conception more challenging. Changes in Health: Health conditions such as endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), damaged or blocked fallopian tubes or uterine issues can develop after childbirth and contribute to secondary infertility. Male Factor Infertility: While the focus is often on women's fertility, male factor infertility can also contribute to difficulties in conceiving a second child. Hormonal Imbalances: Hormonal changes resulting from factors like stress, weight fluctuations, or certain medications can affect fertility. Scar Tissue or Adhesions: Previous surgeries, such as c-sections or other abdominal procedures, can lead to scar tissue formation that impacts fertility.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Basal Body Temperature (BBT) is the body’s lowest resting temperature, which is typically measured when a person is at complete rest, especially after a night’s sleep. BBT is measured first thing in the morning, ideally at the same time every day to ensure consistency. The best way to measure BBT is orally. You will need to purchase a basal thermometer designed for this purpose. As soon as you wake up, before you get out of bed or talk, place the thermometer under your tongue and take the reading. A typical BBT temperature for a woman in her follicular phase, BEFORE ovulation is around 36.1 to 36.4 degrees Celsius (97.0 to 97.5 degrees Fahrenheit). After ovulation has occurred, when the hormone progesterone is released, your BBT tends to rise slightly and will remain elevated until the next menstrual cycle or will remain elevated if pregnancy has occurred. During the luteal phase, AFTER ovulation a typical BBT temperature is 36.4 to 37.0 degrees Celsius (97.6 to 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit) . These temperatures are average values which is why it’s important to take readings over several months to see what is typical for you. BBT can be influenced by a number of factors including poor sleep, illness, alcohol consumption and certain medications, which may cause fluctuations in temperature readings.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>1. Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) - produced in the pituitary gland, stimulates the follicles to release an egg. 2. Oestrogen - there are three oestrogens - oestrone, oestradiol and oestriol - the strongest of the three is oestradiol. Oestrogen is mostly produced by follicles in the ovaries. 3. Luteinising Hormone (LH) - is produced in the pituitary gland and its role is to make ovulation happen and release the egg that’s the most mature. 4. Progesterone - produced by the pituitary gland and corpus luteum (the leftover follicle after an egg has been released during ovulation). It peaks about a week after ovulation. It stimulates the growth of the lining of the uterus in preparation for pregnancy and it turns off LH and FSH so more follicles are not produced and closes the cervix.</image:caption>
